LAWRENCEVILLE -- Fear not, former Blue Rooster fanatics, the establishment may be billed as a bake shop now, but they've still got the famous chicken salad.
Formerly the Blue Rooster Cafe of Lilburn, restaurant owners recently moved their operations to Lawrenceville after a two-year hiatus from the business.
Owner Kyle Cave said the switch to a bakeshop means a focus on sandwiches, to-go lunch specials, bagels and muffins. As one might expect, the establishment also features a selection of sweet, savory and often-decadent baked goods.
"It's all been moving along beautifully," said Cave, a Grayson native, who opened the eatery about one week ago. "The new location is smaller, somewhat different from our restaurant in Lilburn. It's more of an eatery than a restaurant. We love the look of it."
Patron Patricia Robertson said she too liked the look of the new location.
A former customer of the Lilburn restaurant, Robertson said she felt nostalgic this week when she walked into the Blue Rooster Bake Shop and Eatery on W. Pike Street. "It was like stepping back in time, seeing friendly faces from the past," Robertson said,
While Cave misses the Lilburn location, which was in business for 10 years, she said she looks forward to a bright future in Lawrenceville.
"We love this town," Cave said. "It's such a great location. It's awesome. We think people here will enjoy our food."
Among the Southern food fare that can be enjoyed at Blue Rooster: baked ham sandwiches, veggie sandwiches, soup and half sandwiches, boxed lunches with a choice of pasta or potato salad, grilled chicken caesar and the famous Original Blue Rooster Chicken Salad. Also, the Little Blue Rooster for kids: a to-go lunch featuring peanut butter and jelly.
In addition, the eatery boasts a wide selection of specialty cakes and pies. Cave said their old-fashioned strawberry confection is "out of this world."
The city of Lawrenceville officially welcomed the business to its downtown area on Monday during a ribbon cutting ceremony outside the restaurant, located at 169 W. Pike St.
Hours for the Blue Rooster Bake Shop and Eatery are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
