LAWRENCEVILLE -- Skeletal remains of an unidentified female were found and recovered Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville.

At approximately 1 p.m., residents near 1414 Azalea Drive in Lawrenceville reported finding the remains of a person in a creek bed in the wooded area behind a house.

The Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit documented the scene and recovered the skeletal remains. Detectives are treating this as a "suspicious death" investigation, according to Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith.

"(The body is) estimated to have been there for a least a few months, but less than a year," he said.

Upon examination, the remains are believed to be those of a black female between the ages of 16 and 30. A T-shirt was found on the deceased from a memorial event for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 2008. The shirt reads:
